Briards are generally healthy.
The life expectancy for a Briard is 10-12 years. Some lines are prone to
eye disorders (PRA, cataracts, CSNB) and hip dysplasia. Briards, like all
breeds of dogs, are having occurrences of cancer, the most common of which in
Briards is lymphoma, but also hermangiosarcoma, osteosarcoma, and mast cell
tumors. Briards, like other large-chested breeds, can experience bloat and
stomach torsion. The condition can come on very fast and, if left
untreated, is fatal.
